The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is the University’s ‘youngest offspring’.
The establishment of the Faculty was a joint initiative of UZ, the local self-government authorities of the Lubuskie Voivodship and of the municipal authorities. On 29 March 2010 the former UZ Rector appointed a team for the broadening of the University’s educational offer to include medical sciences. After 5 years of determined effort, on 19 May 2015, the Minister of Science and Higher Education issued a decision to grant the Faculty of Education, Sociology and Health Sciences of the University of Zielona Góra the authorization to provide practical uniform MD studies in Medicine. On 24 June 2015 the Senate of the University of Zielona Góra adopted a resolution on the separation from the Faculty of Education, Sociology and Health Sciences of the following: the Chair of Physical Education, the Chair of Internal Medicine, the Department of Nursing, and on the establishment on 1 October 2015 of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The new Faculty provides the following majors: practical uniform MD studies in Medicine (with the newly introduced in 2016/2017 extramural programme), I-cycle practical studies in Nursing (intramural - 199 students in the academic year 2015/2016), I-cycle general academic studies in Physical Education (intramural and extramural - 260 students in the academic year 2015/2016), II-cycle practical studies in Physical Education (intramural and extramural - 122 students in the academic year 2015/2016).
